Olson Building

The Olson Building was sold to the Anacortes Housing Authority by the Port of Anacortes for $1 with the intent being the preservation of the building and the opportunity to provide affordable housing to more residents of Anacortes. Listed on the State’s Most Endangered Places by the Historic Preservation Trust, keeping the Olson Building standing watch at the corner of Commercial Avenue and 3rd Street is of community-wide concern.  Some of the funding will be covered by the “Yes for Housing” initiative that passed in February 2020. Anacortes voters have helped make the saving the Olson Building for posterity closer to a reality.

The Olson Building will continue to house retail space on the main floor while affordable housing units will occupy the upper floor. Preservation of the historic importance of this building will be observed while the structure is being renovated.
